Dress Code for Investiture Weekend

All events except Vigil Service, Mass and Rite of Investiture, White-tie Dinner, and Sunday Mass

Dress code addresses attire for the weekend and by specific liturgical event

Priest Investees: Clerical attire

Knight Investees: Dark business suit with white shirt

Lady Investees: Black Dress or skirt that stops mid-calf in length beneath the knee, with modest neckline,
pantsuit may also be worn

Priests: Clerical attire, Rosette and small Pilgrim Shell

Knights: Dark business suit with white shirt, Rosette, and small Pilgrim Shell

Ladies: Black Dress or skirt that stops mid-calf in length beneath the knee, with modest neckline, pantsuit may also be worn, Stickpin, and small Pilgrim Shell

Priest Investees: Clerical attire

Knight Investees: Dark Business Suit with white shirt

Priests: Choir Dress – Cassock, Sash, Rochet, Mozzetta, and Biretta

Knights: Dark Business Suit with white shirt, Cape, Beret, and White Gloves, Rosette, and small Pilgrim Shell

Ladies: Black Dress or skirt that stops mid-calf in length beneath the knee, with modest neckline, long sleeves, Cape, Black Mantilla, Black Gloves, Stickpin, and small Pilgrim Shell – Pants are not to be worn when wearing the cape.

Priest Investees: Cassock, Sash, and Rochet, Mozzetta is folded over left arm

Knight Investees: White-tie, Black Tails, and White Gloves
Cape is folded over left arm with cross showing; beret is carried in left hand

Lady Investees: Long Black Dress with high neck line and long sleeves, Black Mantilla, and Black Gloves

Priests: Priest Knight non -concelebrants wear Cassock, Sash, Rochet, Mozzetta, Biretta, and Insignia of the
Order. Concelebrants are requested to bring an Alb. Non -concelebrants wear Cassock, Sash, Rochet, and
Biretta.

Knights: White-tie, Black Tails, Cape, Beret, White Gloves, and Insignia of the Order

Ladies: Long Black Dress with high neckline and long sleeves, Cape, Black Mantilla, Black Gloves, and
Insignia of the Order – Pants are not to be worn when wearing the cape.

Priest Knights: Cassock, Sash, Ferraiolone, and Insignia of the Order or Clerical attire with Rosette and Pilgrim Shell

Priests: Clerical attire

Knights: White-tie, Black Tails, and Insignia of the Order. Knight Grand Cross Sash is worn outside the vest since the Grand Master will be present.

Non-Member Gentlemen: White-tie and Black Tails

Ladies: Formal Evening Gown and Insignia of the Order
Evening dresses at the white-tie dinner may be a color other than black but conservative in keeping with
the nature of the event. Bare shoulders are not acceptable and should be covered by the gown, jacket or
shawl.

Military: Officers active or retired may wear Mess Dress

Gentlemen
White Tie or Formal Evening Dress consists of:
• Black dress coat (commonly called an evening tailcoat) with silk facings and horizontally
cut-away front
• White plain stiff-fronted cotton pique shirt (no folds or ruffles)
• White stiff wing collar
• White pique bow tie
• White low-cut pique waist coat (vest front) usually matching the bow tie and shirt
• Mother of pearl, gold or silver studs and cufflinks
• Black silk socks or stockings
• Black patent leather shoes
• White gloves

Military may wear mess dress

Ladies
Ladies dress is not as formally codified as that of men. When white tie is prescribed, women are expected to wear full-length dresses. Dresses with lengths above the ankle (such as cocktail or tea-length dresses) are not appropriate. Bare shoulders are not acceptable and should be covered by the gown, jacket or shawl. Elegantly tailored evening trousers may also be worn.

Dresses at the white-tie dinner may be a color other than black but conservative in keeping with the nature of the event. Likewise gloves of other colors are acceptable at the dinner, and should be short when worn with long sleeves or long when worn with short sleeves and are not removed until seated at table.

Clergy
Choir dress is worn for the Vespers and the Investiture Mass (cassock in the color of your ecclesiastical rank with rochet or surplice).

House cassock, sash, ferraiolone and insignia may be worn at the banquet. Alternatively, clerical attire and rosette may be worn.

Religious with a distinctive habit may wear the full habit as worn outside choir for the dinner.
